The Wild Fox of Yemen: Poems by Threa Almontaser

4.0

“We all choose how to fill/ the lingering lack inside us: I lace bitch-loud/ boots to the knees. Scab soft skin/ on asphalt. Peel the grit whenever/ my blood gardens. I am at war...” (6)

What a movie h collection if works that spans the gamut from commentary on racism, Islamophobia, sexism, and beyond to condemnations of war crimes committed in against Yemenis, including the mass starvation and famine currently killing large swaths of the population. (Links for donations on the author’s website) this collection to several issues and experiences I am unfortunately unfamiliar with because of my own context. I appreciate the author’s rich use of language (both English and Arabic) to convey these experiences and the impact they have on life and it’s outlook for so many people.

It’s an unapologetic and unflinching collection of work speaking to experiences that have been silenced elsewhere. I highly recommend checking out this really moving collection if you can!
