Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
4.0

i was so intrigued by every aspect of the main characters life/ thinking. the first half of this book i ate up simply to know more about how these people lived in such a restricted environment. history isn’t really history anymore. nothing that happens actually does unless the party says so. which begs the question— did anything really ever happen unless there was recorded evidence?

i loved doing this mental gymnastics with winston because he doesn’t even really know the answer. this aspect of the book was strong but i found the last third dragging, although i liked the very end. at a certain point i felt beat over the head with some ideas, but overall i was impressed by this book and i did think it was very ahead of its time.

(also blehhh less woman hatred… flop!!! …. but it was 1949 so maybe i’ll give it (half) a pass (an intense side eye))
