I should have read the blurb. I was clearly not the target audience for this book and I had previously read other books by Chris Bohjalian which I’ve liked. I am an animal-loving, anti hunting and do not have patience for celebrity entitlement so clearly this book was not for me. I had no idea what I was expecting but not this carnage and death sprinkled book full of wars in countries so far removed from my reality that I did not enjoy at all. I had no empathy for this LA characters who put everyone in danger with a sense of entitlement driven by greed and money. The blatant racism explored in this book is jarring to this day and age even though the book was supposed tp have happened in 1964. I quit a few times and wished I had DFN this one. The only reason I finished it was because it was the book chosen for my book club this month.
