Slaves in the Family
by Edward Ball
Slaves in the Family by Edward Ball is a free Goodreads FirstReads advance reader copy of a paperback book that I began reading around Christmastime. It seemed like a good, historic, genealogical dive into a biracially split family in the American South.
This is yet another non-fiction book guilty of Too-many-name-itis as well as the disorder common in both fiction and non-fiction books known as Out-of-chrono-order-toma. It would take some pages turning to find some compelling stories about a handful of family members, but it really wasn't worth sorting out all the names, nicknames, and timelines to stay involved.
