Pandora by Anne Rice

3.0

This is the first Anne Rice book that I've ever read.

Pandora was written beautifully and elegantly. Anne Rice used such beautiful language that it made me want to read the book even if I'm not entirely interested with the story.

Well, I was not entirely uninterested with the story. The fact that Anne Rice used history to make the story richer is, I think, clever and well-done. It gave me new perspective to those histories she used in Pandora's story.

Pandora is also a very likable character, because, as she said, she has a body of a woman and a mind of a man. She is headstrong, and she does not let other voices her drown hers out, even at a time like this, when women were accepted to be on a rank much lower than men.

The themes of the story were also good. There were parts that I highlighted because they amazed me so much--these realizations about life and the world. This book gave me good insights because it sees the world with much appreciation. It is truly admirable how Anne Rice used Pandora's vampiric nature to make her message stronger and clearer to the reader--a truly magnificent work of magic realism.

However, I'm only giving this a rating of three stars because this is just not the story for me--although I appreciated it very much.
