As a Man Thinketh by James Allen

The worst book I’ve ever read. I have a degree in psychology and philosophy and a good chunk of the (mis)information in this book is not only factually wrong but also incredibly harmful. The author clearly has not done any research with psychologists on the science of cognitions and instead speaks matter of factly on matters that he is grossly uninformed about. The amount of shaming and victim-blaming in this book is disgusting, for example the author blames literal babies for any abuse that they went through because the baby must have had impure thoughts (and your thoughts, according to the author, are directly connected to your character, so the baby must have been abused because they were a bad person as well). The book also assumes that any rich person is rich because they are a “good” person with “good” thoughts. Even someone who has merely taken an introduction to logic or critical thinking class would be able to spot the logical fallacies in this book. Don’t recommend at all.
