Little Annie's Ramble by Nathaniel Hawthorne

lighthearted reflective relaxing medium-paced

3.5

At once both experimental and yet not, this piece resembles a thought experiment taken shape. The narrator takes the hand of a little girl as she explores the world of her town, but the narrator is not present except in our minds, and the point of it all is to show what we forget or miss of the halcyon days of childhood when we grow old and complacent and cynical. Enjoyable.
