A really great tragicomedy. What a tragedy that there is no god and no reliable morality in this world, and what a comedy we create when we lean into that fact.

Absolutely spineless, unserious main character who juggles a number of women and affairs while continually angsting about the situations he puts himself in, all of which pale in comparison to the echoes of the Holocaust in the people around him.

Interesting, persistent comparisons between Nazis' treatment of Jews and humans' treatment of animals.
