Justice League, Volume 7: Darkseid War, Part 1 by Geoff Johns

4.0

First, I didn't realize what a Wonder Woman heavy story this was going to be. Pleasantly surprised by that. My overall impression from the first half was that it harkened back to some of the better event books from back in the day that didn't put an entire company's publication schedule on hold, but rather find a way to make a big and explosive story organically out of a book like Justice League. I do almost wish there wasn't the preview section because it kind of spoils what's to come. Rather than trying to figure out what is going on, it's pretty much all laid out from page one.

That's really my only main concern here, though. The book moves at a good clip with a decent blend of exposition and assumption of knowledge. The cast is large and varied, though it is a lot of A-Listers (I kind of liked when they had random minor characters included as central to events), but I guess that's partially because of the lack of history in the New 52 and not having the same depth of who to draw on.

The art is solid throughout. I think Fabok does every issue and it's detailed and crisp and generally very well done.

Overall a solid intro to the latest great event. We will see if it holds up.
