Batman: Year One by Frank Miller, David Mazzucchelli

5.0

Between Long Halloween, Dark Knight Returns and Year One it's hard to find an earlier Batman book that someone doesn't like. Year One is mine. It's rich, dark and grounded. It's a street-level, nuanced and (yes, I know) gritty urban take. Infinitely influential, hardboiled and noirish and with sumptuous black-lined art that strikes the fine line between cartoony and human.
