A book about racism, how close we live to those hurt by it and those who caused the hurt, generational trauma, how our histories intertwine with those around us, and love. This is a story of finding ourselves, and learning to forgive ourselves and others. It's one that holds a glaring light to why we need to recognize the pain in others and ourselves.

Avery is a thoughtful, passionate, and loving narrator. Her story is beautiful and tragic, and full of a deep, personal hope. None of these characters are perfect, they are as complicated and nuanced as real people. And I love their story.
