The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina HenrĂquez
3.0

The story takes place in an apartment building occupied by immigrants from all over Latin America. This is a book that would rather be a TV series, which would give us an opportunity to see more than a chapter's worth of the lives of each of the occupants. As it is, we just get a short arc about Mayor and Maribel. It's not a bad arc, but some of the potential richness in this world is hinted at rather than experienced.

Edit: No, I changed my mind. This isn't a TV series. This is a big old-fashioned novel like Middlemarch or something, the kind hardly anyone publishes anymore. It's a shame this author doesn't have the clout of a Jonathan Franzen so she could really explore these characters' worlds.
