mkhaas29 's review for:
The Queen of the Tearling
by Erika Johansen
2.5 stars. I don’t know if this is YA or not, but it should be. Adding some language and sexual themes doesn’t mean that a book’s content is actually meant for an older audience when everything else about it is simplistic.
Despite being raised by foster parents away from society, when Kelsea embraces her lineage and accepts the throne as Queen of the Tearling she is somehow a great leader, understands military tactics, and a staunch humanitarian ready to risk everything on day 1. Her as the perfect, “true north” heroine is annoying and distracting an unrealistic.
This book is a lot of set up for the rest of the series that I don’t have any intention to read.
