The First Century After Beatrice by Amin Maalouf

2.0

Mediocre. Maalouf toys with a somewhat interesting idea that would read as apocalyptic science fiction, were it not written in a realistic mode (and dealing with real issues, like gender discrimination and disparities between the global North and South). There's quite a bit of informative material here and there, and a few enjoyable moments. But otherwise the character development seemed too poor and sloppy for this to count as a good novel.
