Kiss Me Like a Stranger: My Search for Love and Art by Gene Wilder
5.0
I think this is a great book, really enjoyed reading it. I think many people who responded negatively to this book thought of Gene Wilder as sort of a perfect person, they seem shocked that he had some issues growing up, problems with love, and other normal hiccups in life.
I do not think knowing this information tarnishes Gene Wilder at all, instead it humanizes him. To me after reading the book I felt like I knew the man behind the acting. He wasn't perfect, because frankly no one is, but I could appreciate how candid and open Gene was about his mistakes.
During his acting career I think Gene worked with some amazing people, but through out the stories maintained a very down to earth feel, constantly amazed at the people he was working with.
If you want to maintain a perfect image of Gene Wilder don't read this book (or a well written bio on frankly any real person :p), but if you want to get to know the man behind the acting better, flaws and all, definitely try this book. It made me like Gene Wilder even more as an actor and I can't wait to try ti watch more of his movies.
