Devastatingly tender. This is a book set in the decades following World War 2 about the thin line between love and hate and how the world’s suffering doesn’t end just because the war has. I thought Isabel was a complex and unlikeable but still compelling protagonist and the connection between Isabel and Eva was beautifully written throughout, and I audibly gasped when all the pieces fell into place to uncover the full story. I did find the book very slow paced at times which occasionally made it hard to follow, but it is beautifully crafted and there’s not a word in it that hasn’t been thoroughly considered.
Graphic: Homophobia, Antisemitism
Moderate: Death, Death of parent, War
