Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

3.5

Solid book with interesting, well written characters, and a complex dynamic.
I loved the way magic works in this story and the history of old movies.

I don’t have anything negative to say about the story other than nothing ever hooked me.
I had the same steady level of enjoyment throughout the entire book, no highs or lows. So I was never really bored, but I’ve never been over excited about a story that trudges along at a stead pace.

It does lean more of a slow burn but the characters were so well developed and the atmosphere intriguing that I was was fine with that, I just felt like I was always waiting for something exciting to happen to shake the story up.

The ending, the last 20%, was really good!

Also, there was a shoutout to my favourite horror classic- the Blob! (assuming it was referring to the 1988 version this book has my love and respect for that alone!)
