Reluctantly You by Cora Rose
4.5
"We were never taught how to love. We just learned how to hate." - Mitch
"Something in him fit right into that missing part of me." - Gideon
This is the first book that I read from Cora Rose, that also means that I haven't read the books about Mitch's his brothers, so I don't know the full story, what he said to them but I know that he hurt them, especially Magnus. I'm going to read their books and more by this author in the future!
Mitch has to undo all the toxic behavior and thoughts he was taught by his parents by himself, while hating himself, life and feeling like he is alone in this world, that nobody wants or loves him. Mitch talks down on himself for the whole book, this is a process and it that takes a lot of time to undo that way of thinking. I don't feel bad for him that his brothers stopped speaking to him, that is their right. But I understand where Mitch his feeling come from and he is trying to do better. He is really depressed in the beginning of the book, especially in chapter 5, that was very hard to read.
Gideon is Mitch his boss and doesn't like him at the start but there is something about Mitch that he can't let go. Gideon just understands Mitch, he listens and most importantly he gives Mitch a safe space to explore and he encourages him to go to therapy to just do what he really wants, that it isn't wrong, to talk to his brother and do things that he wants, he deserves that. Gideon was pushing him but never too far, he gave Mitch a shoulder to cry on.
This book has lots of great quotes, meaningful conversations about mental health and conversations between Mitch and his brothers and lots of moments with other characters that already have books such as Emery! And an orange cat. It also has spicy scenes at work.
"For the first time in my life, I'm putting myself first. I'm letting myself just... be." - Mitch [I'm so proud of him, of them, they are loved and have a family]
I received an ARC copy of this book, thank you so much for the opportunity.
