The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke
4.0

I loved the feeling of this book. It felt like I was reading an old Norse myth and I love that. It didn't feel like it was trying to be a modern feminist retelling of Beowulf, it felt like this story has always been there and that this is an old myth that has been passed down. It didn't feel like it was trying too hard to be something, and because of this it was successful in becoming an awesome story about empowered female mercenaries off to slay a beast.

The writing was well done, but I was a little thrown off by some of the changes to words to try and step away from Norse mythology. For example, 'Norse' was changed to 'Vorse,' and 'Odin' was changed to 'Obin' and it just lessened my enjoyment a bit.

I loved the sea witches and the Quicks and of course, the Mercies. I also really enjoyed the very subtle romance in the book as it was lovely to have there, but did not overpower the story or the message of the book.

Overall, a really entertaining story with magic and mythology.
