The Hollow by Jessica Verday
1.0

The Hollow is about Abbey who just lost her best friend who either disappeared or died. Who knows? Abbey knows this is not right and either wants to find out what happened or spend all day staring at her "new best friend" Caspian or missing her former best friend.

The first chapter gripped me, but was also my warning about how I'd feel about the bit I did read. The first chapter could have ended with one less paragraph. It was a cliffhanger (sort of) and poignant. Instead the author went that extra step and I cringed wondering where the editor was.

I made it to 110 pages before I decided this book will just have to wait, or not be finished at all. There is way too much character exploration and too little plot movement to hold my interest (much like how Twilight was for me). From the start, I saw this as a "Twilight Wannabe" from the thick size. The double spaced font has me feeling like I'm reading a manuscript and thinking the book is really half the size it is. I do enjoy that the book was written in notebooks first and by hand. I admire that. Unfortunately, it could use some more editing and more help propelling the plot.
