It’s so frustrating to read something that has a great concept, from a clearly talented writer, and be so disappointed. It’s not that the storyline was even bad. But a book shouldn’t make you feel bad about yourself. Especially a romance. Maybe I’m sensitive or maybe delusional in the sense that I don’t want to see romances with fat characters being degraded for being fat. One fat joke is plenty. To consistently repeat fatphobia in a book where the main character is fat is annoying.
I don’t even care about who she chose — none of them were that great besides Sam anyway. Bea feels unworthy throughout the whole book and then suddenly, out of nowhere, she knows she deserves better?
For me, this really missed the mark. It drew me in and I read it quickly, but goddamn it makes you feel bad to be fat. Which shouldn’t be the result of reading a “romance” about a fat main character.
