I had no idea this book was part of a series but I still enjoyed it nonetheless.
Julia Lindholm was found catatonic in her apartment next to her brutally murdered husband, with their four-year-old son nowhere to be found. David Lindholm was a very popular and high-ranking police officer so authorities were quick to turn on Julia and ensure that she would get life in prison. However, as Annika Bengtzon (a reporter), starts digging into David's past, she realizes that David isn't as perfect as the public perceives him to be and that Julia Lindholm may in fact be innocent.
Partway through reading this book, I realized I've already read it before (I bought it years ago and must have read it then, but had no recollection of it when I picked it up again). But even so, I realized that the mystery was really well laid out and the characters were really interesting. While investigating David's past, Annika was dealing with her own family drama and mid-life crisis. Honestly, it made me respect Annika's professionalism and her ability to separate her messy personal life with her full-time job.
