After listening to the audiobook for Happy Place earlier this year I finally understood the hype around Emily Henry books. I’m not gonna say they’re perfect or the best thing I’ve ever read but I love her settings, characters and writing. Can the characters be frustrating to read at times? Sure, absolutely. But most of the time I’m having a blast following along for the ride.

January and Gus swapping literary genres and showing the other their process was such a fun adventure. She seemed ever the optimist despite all the bad things in her life and he seemed determined to not believe in those happy endings. By the end they rubbed off on each other and in a good way, I think. Clear communication is not their strong suit or bring entirely open about everything, but I know that’s how Emily Henry writes her characters and I don’t let it bother me too much. Without this formula we wouldn’t get some of the reveals that we do.

It’s a solid four from me as I absolutely consumed the audiobook in just a few short days.
