The way Charlotte McConaghy writes about nature is unmatched. This one is not nearly as hopeful about the future of our planet as her other book, Once There Were Wolves, as it's set in a future where most plant and animal life is already extinct. But it makes you want to run out and swim with dolphins and watch all the birds immediately. I cried at nearly every part about animals and what they meant to our main character. The actual story was really good too, of course, and speaks a lot to the human will to survive and what makes life meaningful.
