Justine, or The Misfortunes of Virtue by Marquis de Sade

2.0

Justine naively trusts someone —> Justine is brutally raped and abused by libertines who explain their crimes as natural and necessary —> Justine escapes —> Justine naively trusts someone, repeat ad nauseam.

Dreadfully repetitive, boring, barely a novel, clunky exposition of libertine arguments. Only interesting in how it prefigures modern notions of modern relativism and Nietzsche’s account of morality as a power structure.
