The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
- Plot- or character-driven? A mix
- Strong character development? It's complicated
- Loveable characters? Yes
- Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated
- Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
3.5
Here's a spoiler free review from a rookie. If you don't want a bunch of information, I'll just say it's worth a read. If you do, here you go!
I'd say this is a good book to read if you're just starting to pick up reading again or if you're trying to get out of a reading slump. I haven't read as many books as others, but this is a pretty good young adult piece. Let's start off with the good things:
- loving the general theme
- likeable characters
- easy to understand
- many new events (things are constantly happening yet at a medium pace)
- some character backstory?? (only a little)
Here are some of my critiques:
- some of the "reveals" weren't as big as I expected, but I also have to read the sequel to give my final thoughts.
- would've liked a little more development with the romance
Overall, I give it 3.5 stars out of 5; it's definitely worth a read and I really enjoyed it!
