Martin Shaw narrating really made this one for me. Highly recommend the audio!
I've wanted to dive into the wider world of Tolkien since I read tLotR when I was eleven, and nearly two decades later, I finally did!
I don't like when people ascribe absolute status to Tolkien's work as the one Fantasy series to rule them all (heh), but I enjoyed the Silmarillion. It was nice, though not always page-turning, to read something more mytho-historical and less narrative, and the world-building is impressive. I feel less like I read a book and more like I took a small course on Middle-earth.
