Storm from the East
by Joanna Hathaway
I loved the mix of action, turmoil, and raw self reflection by both Athan and Aurelia throughout this second installment. It usually is difficult to follow a great first book with something that reaches even higher, but Storm from the East did it!
I have grown to love the complexity of the relationship between our two MC’s, it feels so authentic and true to the circumstances they find themselves in. It’s rare to find written relationships that don’t ignore the big issues that can divide two people, and how hard it is to make choices that are best for yourself and your family. This novel was beautifully well written.
Constant conflict and war spanning multiple books can be hard to stay interested in, but it feels fresh and like we are slowly unspooling more of the big picture here. I appreciate that it doesn’t feel monotonous or repetitive, and even with this conflict, we still get lots of character driven content.
Can’t wait to read the next installment!
