I think it says a lot about an author to be able to take serious subject matter and find warmth and beauty in the midst of it. I'm sure this story resonates with many children all across the world, who are the innocents that are always the ones who suffer when those who bring them into the world don't live up to the responsibilities of raising their children. I can't even imagine what that does to a child's emotions and how difficult of a situation that is to be in. The ending was unexpected, but it filled me with warmth and made me realize that sometimes you can find family where you least expect it.
