this was so incredibly frustrating, heart-breaking, and overall fabulous. this whole book is steeped in pain and fantastic character portraits of a complicated family, i love the way celeste ng threads cultural trauma through this entire story and i hate how realistic and open ended that makes it. she does such a good job of bringing lydia's issues to a boiling point, and all the povs make it easy to understand why her family treats her as unfortunately as they do; this truly feels like a modern greek tragedy. i love jack and hannah, i hope they both grow up to have nice things in the future and that they both involve nathan. i love this book.
