Ali's Pretty Little Lies
by Sara Shepard
I actually really, truly enjoyed this book from start to finish. Alison (well really Courtney) is a WAY more interesting character than any of the girls. Shepard did a great job of getting at how incredibly complex she was. Like...maybe she was manipulative, but would she have been as manipulative if she wasn't trying to "be" Alison? There were times where she was so nice and seemed like a good friend, and my heart broke for her when the girls pushed her away, but then her response to them doing so was to just be so awful and manipulative. She felt like a real person that I felt sorry for, and liked, and kind of didn't like all at the same time. I can't believe in ALL of the 16 other books, I never put together that Alison, the real Alison, was the mastermind behind Courtney's initial downfall as well. (Convincing Courtney to pretend to be her so that she could get her shipped off to the loony bin.) I always assumed both twins were kind of crazy, and Courtney WAS a little...but all of that stemmed from having Alison mess her up. I was legitimately sad when she died at the end. I believe Shepard has one more spin off book, but I think that one is from the real Alison's perspective, which should also be interesting, but I don't think I'll enjoy it as much as this one from Courtney/Ali's perspective.
