The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

5.0

4.5 stars rounded up to 5. Only reason it’s not a 5 is because I felt like 444 pages was a bit too long.

Follows Adeline (Addie) Larue, an independent girl in the 1700s who does not want to marry and makes a deal with the devil (Luc) to live “until she doesn’t want to” but he curses her by no one remembering her as soon as she is out of sight. Much of the story is looking back on her 300 years of life, while the “current” story line is her meeting a boy (Henry) who actually remembers her. She finds out later that he remembers her because he also made a deal with the devil for one year of life in which everyone around him loves him and needs him. People see what they want to see in him. He can remember Addie because she wants to be remembered. Ends up that Addie trades herself for Henry to save him. She trades herself to Luc “for as long as he wants her” in exchange for Henry still remembering Addie and him being able to live. End of the book Henry releases Addie’s story as a book and she is with Luc, but she outsmarted him because of the words she used in her deal and basically says that she is going to break his heart and make him sick of her so he lets her free.
