Emily Carroll packs tremendous power into this short read, which can be described as queer erotica-meets-horror fairy tale. With her signature colour scheme of black, white and red, Carroll weaves a story of fear, desire and seduction about a cat-woman who visits a vampire’s castle in order to kill her. A stunning work although I’m not sure if I was meant to understand a clearer story or if I was meant to be left with the questions I was when I finished. I also feel like the publishing format and paper choice maybe lets it down a little (compared to the glossier Through the Woods).
