truly the most innovative and interesting magic system i’ve seen in a book in ages; plot (any mystery) kept me invested to the point that i had to force myself to pace my reading so i could enjoy it;

loved the characters and their relationships and the italian city-state setting; world building done well; the message of freedom and what it truly means was a tad heavy handed at times but well met; was funny at times and truly gory and horrific at others (which is prime fantasy); good themes and i’m excited to see how it all escalates/ see our cast of characters grow

sancia is perfect to me and i love her finding herself and a little rag tag group; gregor is my tragic honorable monster and i wish him and his mommy issues/ptsd the best; orso, my eccentric uncle, please start this house and better this city; hope berenice gets to be gay do more crime and CLEF! clef you’re my guy i’m so sorry

just such an enjoyable read and i can’t wait for more!
