We Are Legion by Dennis E. Taylor

Fun! A good friend recommended this to me shortly after it came out, and I have finally gotten around to reading it, thanks to book club. This was a breezy read with occasional bits of pop culture reference that I enjoyed.

Bob, or rather Robert Johanssen, just sold his company and signed up for a cryostasis program in the event of his untimely death... only to die in a freak accident later that day. He wakes up over 100 years in the future to find out he is now a brain-in-a-computer, humanity has let many of its worst excesses run rampant, and he is being tested as a possible ship-brain to help humanity get out of Sol in an exploration arms race. Things happen, and Bob, as the computerized Robert calls himself, is headed out among the cosmos to seek out good locations to colonize, and sources of raw materials with which to replicate and build.

This was a lot of fun, and I will seek out the rest of the series because it ends a little abruptly, and there is a lot more happening that I want to see through to the end.
