Maia and Ragnar’s story is filled with lies, betrayal, passion and growth. Maia being a human with the smallest amount of magic inside her finds herself wrapped up into marrying a troll by the king’s hand. Ragnar is a troll who firmly believes humans are fragile delicate creatures on the verge of being the trolls greatest downfall. When the two of them wed, lies, uncertainty and treachery unfold as they are now bound to each other for eternity and must find a way for the humans and trolls to find peace. Will it be all that easy?
3.75/5 🌶️ I enjoyed what spicy scenes were in here and I can 100% see that this is a slow burn style book, but once they had finally had sex, you almost wish that when they do get a little frisky, that the author didn’t shy away from giving us a little more. We were met with short ‘okay let’s do it’ then moving on, without the detail a slow burn book requires. The concept of piercings as achievements was imbedded in this book and was a brilliant move, but I just wished we could have read more about how those piercings could work in the bedroom.
I found this author on TikTok and was thoroughly impressed by her writing style and concept of depicting a world. She is talented and can paint with words delicately and in stark contrast. What leaves me not giving this 5 ⭐️ is that there was almost too much description and inner monolouge and not enough action. The book felt off balanced and towards the end I actually skimmed more than took the time to read. Unfortunately, this was the first book I’ve ever just wanted to get to the end to for it to be over. There was so much about the Troll vs Human war, that we missed things essential to the slow burn style, like stolen glances, fluttered hand touches, a scene in the bath tub together. I felt like we were reading more of a fantasy adventure romance, than a slow burn fantasy.
I would recommend to some based on the character growth and the MMC being searingly delicious. I would not recommend to those who don’t like slow burn, don’t like inner monolouge, and was a well rounded ending as I feel the last 2 chapters were rushed.
