This is How it Happened by Paula Stokes

This was an unexpected book I picked up at my university bookstore and I am definitely glad I did pick it up. I fell in love with Genevieve right away and it was so unexpected as it usually takes me a while to fall for characters. I was curious as to what happened between Dallas and Genevieve the compelling way the book was written was one of the reasons why I kept reading. I also wanted to find out if Genevieve would ever fix her relationship with her father and if she would ever go to Utah. I was a bit sad about Dallas's death but it did not hit me as hard as when Brad tried to commit suicide. I loved how the book talks about topics that are rarely taught in school like driving while drowsy, suicide, anxiety, depression, bullying both cyber and in person. I feel everyone should read this book because it allows for a wide range of readers to gain a new perspective about driving, talking to their peers and allows for a non-judgmental way of looking at a situation. I am glad by the end Genevieve figures out what she wants to do next and where she will go without having to worry much about what the media says. I am glad she got the help she needed without feeling weak.
