Love Radio by Ebony LaDelle

5.0

I absolutely adored this book. It unapologetically represents Black love, through the great parts as well as the trickier parts. The characters were beautifully written. With it being a dual pov, we are able to see how both of the main characters are feeling which truly made it even better. This book focuses on Prince Jones, a 17 year old passionate DJ who has his own segment on Detroit’s popular hip-hop show “Love Radio”, where he gives relationship advice to anyone who calls in. Being the main caretaker at home for is mother with multiple sclerosis and his little brother is no easy feat. Soon he realizes he may need to put his own relationship advice to the test. Cue Danielle ‘Dani’ Ford, a 17 year old aspiring writer struggling to find her voice. Her dream is to go to NYC and become a famous author. However she soon realizes that in order to be who she wants to be, she must first come to terms with her past and mend past friendships. When both of their lives intertwine, Dani gives Prince 3 dates. 3 dates to prove to her that he is worth falling for. One of the reasons why I loved this book is because of how relatable it is. Living in the metro Detroit area it was nice to read a book where I could picture the scenery because I am so used to it. Another thing that I loved was that there was such great character development. With Dani especially, I could see how mentally she became stronger through overcoming her obstacles and learning more through her writing. Lastly, I loved the portrayal of Black love as well as family life. The dynamics felt so real because its something I can actually relate to. I don’t want to spoil anything but some parts just melted my heart. However, one thing I “didn’t like” was that Prince was SO well written and characters like him make me have such high expectations for guys in real life
