The House Witch 3 by Delemhach
adventurous dark emotional funny

Okay, so, in my reviews of books 1 & 2, I complained about tone whiplash and having to give too many content warnings on books that are supposed to be cozy and light, but contain surprise dark content.

The good news about book 3 is, the tone whiplash problem is solved. However, it's solved by leaning completely into dark tone with very little cozy left. It's a gripping read, but not quite what I thought I was signing up for when I started the series.
Annika's pregnancy may have been intended as a positive subplot to lighten the mood, but if so, it didn't work for me. An accidental pregnancy for someone who never wanted to be a parent? Personal nightmare.

There's plenty of fantasy about war already, and I didn't really need another fantasy battle. Or so I thought...I must admit the climax is pretty clever in the smart ways that Kraken defeats the villain's familiar, and Fin figures out how his house witch powers can defeat a fire witch.
