The Blonde Who Came In from the Cold by Ally Carter

5.0

I always feel a bit biased reviewing Ally Carter books because they are automatic five stars, but…for me they deserve it!! Ally’s voice is so strong, her characters are sharp, her pacing is top tier.
Dual timelines is the perfect method to tell Alex and King’s story; you have to follow them in the past to understand how they got to this point in the present. The tension between them is never lets up, and neither does the danger. There is such a fine line in a Rivals/Enemies to Lovers (bc somehow, it’s both!!) to make it actually work, and Alex and King’s dynamic is savory and suave and thrilling.
King is Cool Guy and a legacy, he belongs. His attitude always reflects the pressures of his birthright, how he’s a natural at the Spy Thing. But his emotions, too, follow suit with the previous Michael Kingsley’s. They are simps!
Alex is Zoe’s foil, all cynicism and self-loathing. Perfect twins! She’s smart and slick and full of guilt. Her misplaced guilt and her false bravado are what makes her such a good spy, but it’s also what makes her King’s foil too. They have such different views of this life, and neither of them are wrong. That’s why they work so well together!
Once again, Ally Carter has crafted something fun and emotional with brilliant banter and exciting conflict.
I think it wrapped up a smidge quickly? Like, here’s the reveal, okay byeeee. And I have some QUESTIONS for Merritt. But sometimes that’s the nature of something so fast paced. And I stayed up late to binge the last 20% of the book so might’ve just been me.
Margaret Merritt and Duke of Hottington story next???

THANK YOU, NetGalley for the ARC.
