Re-reading this in 2024, and all I said last year still holds true! I love this book, and this story!

(04/15/2023) I...will be back. I need to process this book before writing anything about it.
I'm back... is still the same day, but I was able to gather my thoughts in a more "organized" manner.

I honestly don't think I could ever think about this book without crying. The book, follows Ove, a VERY grumpy 59 year men who thrives on order and following the rules. After the death of his wife, Ove finds himself looking for ways, to get to her in the other life. The premise sounds kinda wierd and might not sound enticing. I know that because despite buying the book at a thrift shop a year ago, I never really gravitated toward reading. However, after reading Backman's novella "And Every morning the way home gets longer and longer", I decided to give it a try.

Despite having a stern exterior, Ove had a heart of gold. He was helpful, honest and caring. He was handed a difficult childhood and had lost so much in his life, but despite all, he was someone that helped other without expecting nothing in return. An honest, hardworking man whose life changed when he fell in love with his wife Sonja. They spent almost 4 decades together, and endured a lot of difficult moments in their life. After his wife died, he became a man that didn’t know how to deal with his grief, and saw no purpose in his life. That all changed with a very loud, family moved to the neighborhood and a small "annoying cat" made their way to his life.

I don't want to go over the details of this book because I think is best to get suprised by some of the events that take place in the story. But I just can't say bad things about this. The book IMO has no flaws. A Man Called Ove, is quite literally one of the most BEAUTIFUL stories I've read in a while. Although I loved a lot of books I've read in April (I'm looking at you Powerless), I just don't think there are other books I can compare to this one. I am 100% sure I will keep thinking about it for a long time. I know it will have a special place in my heart for a long time and despite not being a romance, is a book that I will recomend forever and ever.
