A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G. Summers

4.0

A decadent romp through a velvety swamp of gourmet meals in granular detail and gratuitous violence acted upon male lovers, Summers' "A Certain Hunger" will leave you stuffed to the point of near discomfort as you reach its conclusion. I stopped reading probably 12 times to make sure and write down and share a quote I found intoxicating and moving; this book is full of fun anecdotes, similes, metaphors, and other wonderfully twisted turns of phrase on love, sex in all of its disgusting beauty, and above all, food.

Its only hang-ups are that it can be a bit indulgent in its attempts at titillating the reader by telling them they can't handle its vileness, but that they secretly want and need to hear more. It also sputters a bit awkwardly toward its conclusion; Summers spends more time creating and showing off an admittedly charismatic psychopath than fleshing out a fully compelling story. It's more slasher than deep cut.

And of course, "Haters gonna hate, and predators are going to predate" is an absolutely unforgivable line that I choked on like a Golden Corral chicken nugget.

Overall I would recommend if you're a fan of Hannibal Lecter and always wanted to see him have unabashed sex.
