I adored this installment to the Caraval series. In fact, it was far better than the first. Tella is such a breath of fresh air as a protagonist. Whereas Scarlett (who leads Caraval) fits the current mold of fantasy heroines, Tella takes the reins over and makes her protagonist feel unique. She is riddled with flaws and virtues. Stubborn, impulsive, rash, even also incredibly bold, loyal, and so courageous. She is the hero of this story, and knows it.

In terms of the potential romance suitors, Tella's relationship with Dante comes quick, passionate, fiery, and yet filled with so much depth that leaves both Tella and reader wanting more. Then there's Jacks, a new character who also develops an intriguing bond with Tella, and you just can never tell where their story might lead.

This adventure is filled with magic and romance, where the stakes are high and dangerous, but there's a girl ready to face it all head on. And she does it all in her best dresses, armored with her great wit and brave heart.

I may be more of a Scarlett in real life, but oh how I dream to be more of a Donatella.
