The Novice's Tale by Margaret Frazer

4.0

I love reading mysteries, especially historical mysteries. I have been looking for the books in this series for some time and I was happy to find two of them at a bookstore on a recent visit to a local thrift store. I pretty much immediately began this one, first in the series. And immediately became immersed in the timeframe and setting as well as the story.
Very well filled out characters, especially the residents of the nunnery. I really liked Dame Frevisse, Dame Claire, Dame Alys and their leader, Domina Edith. As women, let alone being nuns, they could be dismissed by many, especially lblustery men, but these women are strong and smart. And take no crappe from anyone but with a gentle firmness.
They go about their duties but have great situational awareness and know that they have to get to the bottom of the suspicious deaths that are occurring in their holy home.
I am really looking forward to the rest of this series as I find them. I can definitely recommend this book, series and author.
