Fredrik Backman is a master at creating characters. This is a book full of fictional people who I swear I have met before. As someone who grew up in a small, sports-centered town, there is so much truth in these pages. It's that truth that made me cry and laugh and hope and sigh with relief. When I began this book, I didn't expect much beyond a quaint hockey related story, but how silly was I to underestimate Backman's ability to destroy my heart and then stitch it back together again.
