Mailhot writes with such open honesty, making this a very insightful and emotional read!

Written in essay form she speaks of loss and greif, of her aboriginal ancentory and the powers of that. Her children, mental illness, her lovers, abuse and survival.
Poetic and beautiful writing.
For such a slim book it really manages to get under your skin.

Mailhot grew up close to where I live actually. It was another thing that drew me to this book. It was very refreshing to read such a powerful story from someone so local.
