Dear Santa, Send Me a Cowboy by Remi Rose

fast-paced

3.5

When love and lust come knocking on the door…

After one too many wines, single mom Diana Ward  pens a letter to Santa, asking him for a cowboy for Christmas. Between dealing with her lousy baby daddy and going on failed date after failed date, she just wants something positive in her life, besides her 12-year-old son. It's a Christmas miracle that she's after. And it's a Christmas miracle she might just get, when Lawson Boone comes knocking on her door, delivering her Christmas tree. He's everything she's asked Santa for, and there's an undeniable connection between them, and Lawson is determined to prove he's the man for her.

Did someone say sugar, SPICE, and all things nice, emphasis on the spice? No seriously, this story is like 1% festivities, 1% actual story, and 98% spice, and I ain't even mad because Remi DELIVERED.

Diana and Lawson had some good chemistry, especially when it came to the spice of it all. You've got a sassy, stubborn, and slightly bratty, single mom, and a dirty-mouthed cowboy who isn't afraid to go after what he wants, and together they work well. Throw in a belt buckle, frosting and some tinsel, and you've got yourself some smutty Christmas fun!

As we all know, the novella format does mean that things move a little more quickly than in a regular old 300+ novel, and while this was an enjoyable read, some aspects did feel a bit too rushed. In particular, Lawson's character felt like he would have benefited from pacing of a full-length novel - the story is like insta-love on steroids and Lawson in particular was super intense, which wouldn't have been noticeable if the story took place over more than just like 24 hours.

But Remi set out to write a smutty festive novella, and that's exactly what she served up! Insta-love and intensity aside, this was an enjoyable read, and a great read to cram in as we approach the end of the year.

If you're looking to spice things up this Christmas, especially my Northern Hemisphere romance readers in the depths of cold winter, this is definitely a novella to slot into your holiday TBR!
