Everyone kept telling me how wonderful this book was, so of course I had to jump in and check it for myself. I wasn’t disappointed.

The eleven-year-old Tippy Chan lived in very quiet small town with her mum. While her mum went on a cruise, her uncle Pike and his new boyfriend Devon came over to look after her. Tippy was in love with Nancy Drew books, so when her teacher’s body was found beside Riverstone’s only traffic light, Tippy immediately went into mystery-solving mode with her uncle and Devon.

Tippy Chan immediately sneaked her way into my heart and stayed there. I loved her diverse background, her larger-than-life uncle, her working mother, and her relationship with her nainai (grandma)!

The storytelling in this one was so fresh and unique - I loved that we were able to read between the lines where all the adults around Tipppy did grown-up things and said unsavoury things while trying to keep Tippy’s innocence intact! I had a lot of LOL moments while reading this.

I even learned a survival skill from this book. Apparently according to Tippy, if you wore red you’d be repellent to strangers - I think I have to test this for myself!

Cheeky, heartwarming and a breath of fresh air - I, of course, immediately jumped into the next book.
