The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

5.0

The Bride Test By Helen Hoang is Helen's second novel (I read the third, first, then second whoops). Esme (My) Tran is convinced by a well meaning mother to leave Vietnam for a summer to woo over her son and marry him. Esme decides to do it for her young daughter, to try to give her a better life. But Khai wants nothing to do with women or relationships. Period. Esme draws on her hardworking roots and determination, even when Khai repeatedly rejects her. Will Esme win over Khai and be able to start a new life in America for entire family or will she head back to Vietnam?

As always, Helen crafts a wonderful narrative that is upbeat in nature but tackles difficult and not mainstream topics. I finished this in not even 3 days. I am anxiously waiting for Helen's next novel!

While the books are stand alone stories with their own shining characters, I would HIGHLY recommend reading in the order written, as the characters all come from the same universe and interact with each other.
