3.5 ⭐️ Small Town Romance with a twist!
The fact that they were friends in high school, and all the little details that come out of that, were my favourite parts of this book. However, I didn't like either of the MCs personalities. They were definitely cute together, but neither really felt like a real person, let alone a 30-something adult. And a 6-year-old with that vocabulary AND grammar? Yeah, I'm not buying that.
I loved the BFF group and Noah's niece's personality. They were the highlights for me. I think I'm just tired of the 'ditzy, sad girl with low self-esteem' and 'broody, assh*le dude with a troubled youth' pairing. There were things about their story that I loved, but almost as many things that felt clunky. Like, I'm sorry, but this woman completely forgot everything she ever talked about with her supposed best friend from high school? Phones existed 15 years ago. They could've easily kept in touch! Anyway, there are some things that just don't make sense to me in this story.
Still, it was pretty good, and I can definitely see the appeal. And I'm giving it an extra 0.5 for the fact that there's no 3rd act break-up alone -but seriously these two were dragging their feet so much, there were basically a lot of tiny break-ups (aka them refusing to see reality or each other's feelings).
